Vishnuprayag
Situated at the holy confluence of the Alaknanda and Dhauliganga rivers, Vishnuprayag is a Bijou town situated at an altitude of 1,372 meters above sea level in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. The first of the Panch Prayags is Vishnu Prayag with rivets, and the other four are Nandprayag, Karnaprayag, Rudraprayag, and Devprayag according to the descending order of the river.
It is here that the mighty river Alaknanda, also known as ‘Vishnu Ganga’, joins the Dhauliganga river flowing through the Niti Valley. There is also a suspension bridge here which helps the visitors to cross the gushing Alaknanda River.
History of Vishnuprayag
Vishnu Prayag is a symbol of beauty and spirituality. The word ‘Prayag’ means confluence. Here Vishnu Prayag meets at the confluence of the Alaknanda and Dhauli Ganga rivers. Both rivers flow from Niti Valley to here. Also, Vishnu Prayag is one of the Panch Prayag, and the first one too, the other four being named Nandprayag, Karnaprayag, Rudraprayag, and Devprayag.
According to the holy Hindu scriptures, the place was named after the manifestation of Lord Vishnu. It is widely believed that sage Narada was meditating here and Vishnu blessed him with his presence. Above the confluence, you can see the famous Vishnu temple.

Auli:-
Popularly known as the ‘Skiing Destination of India’, Auli forms a prominent part of the Himalayan range. The place has several ski resorts, a range of mountains, trees, and spectacular snow-capped mountains. While partaking in skiing, you will see apple orchards, old oaks, and pine trees. The distance between Vishnu Prayag and Auli is approximately 24 km.
Badrinath:- The most important of all the Char Dhams, the mighty Badrinath Dham is situated amidst the mountains of Uttarakhand. Joshimath:- Overlooking the confluence of the Alaknanda and Dhauli Ganga rivers, Joshimath is located near Vishnu Prayag. Also known as Jyotirmath, this place is located near one of the four Mathas established by Adi Guru Sri Shankaracharya, built in the eighth century.
It is a hill town in the Chamoli district situated at an altitude of 6150 feet. Also, the idol of Lord Badri is taken from Badrinath to Joshimath in winter. Hence, this place serves as the winter home for the Lord.
Nandaprayag:- Nandprayag situated in Chamoli district is another confluence with Panch Prayag. You can see the convergence of two rivers, Alaknanda and Mandakini.
