Hemkund Sahib is the holy Gurudwara of Sikhs, this Gurudwara is situated at an altitude of 4329 meters in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. It is located near the Valley of Flowers. According to religious belief, the tenth Guru of the Sikhs, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, had done penance at this place. This Gurudwara is dedicated to Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj. This thing is mentioned in the Dasam Granth dedicated to Guru ji himself. The temple of Lord Shri Ram’s younger brother Lakshman ji is also situated near Hemkund Sarovar.
At this place, Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj had done penance in his previous birth. The place is very beautiful, picturesque, and peaceful. This Gurudwara is situated on the banks of a beautiful lake. Which is known as Hemkund Lake. This place is visited only for 6 months a year. This place remains covered with snow for 6 months. Every year thousands of pilgrims come to visit this place. A small stream named Himganga emerges from the banks of Hemkund Lake.
History of Gurdwara Hemkund Sahib
Hemkund Sahib Gurdwara was discovered by some Gursikhs (true Sikhs) Sant Sohan Singh Ji Tehri Wale, Havaldar Modan Singh Ji, and Bhai Vir Singh Ji with the help of Sikh Sangat. The discovery of Hemkund Sahib or Hemkunt Sahib was completed in 1933-34 AD. In 1936, the Sikh Sangat got the Gurdwara Sahib constructed at Hemkund Sahib. Guru Granth Sahib Ji was established and inaugurated in Gurdwara Sahib in August-September, 1937.
Hemkund Sahib Yatra Uttarakhand
Along with the Chardham Yatra in Uttarakhand, the Yatra of Hemkund Sahib also lasts for 5-6 months. The pilgrimage to Hemkund Sahib runs from May to October. This yatra is inaccessible due to snow from October to April, hence remains closed. Hemkund Sahib is the highest Gurudwara in the world.

Sri Hemkund Sahib is located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. It comes in the higher Himalayan region. This sacred Guru Dham is situated on the banks of Lokpal Lake and densely surrounded by seven mountain peaks. This Gurdwara is dedicated to the 10th Guru of the Sikhs, Sri Guru Gobind Singh.
