Adi Badri Temple is one of the Important pilgrimages and a part of Panch Badri. It is situated at a distance of 17 km from Karnprayag on Ranikhet road in the Chamoli district. It is situated at the Sangam (where two river meet) of the Pindar river and Alaknanda river.
Adi Badri consists of 16 temples, and the temple was built during the Gupta period and from the 5th-8th century. The main shrine of Narayana has a raised platform in front, whose roof leads to a small pyramid-shaped enclosure, where the idol is placed. The idol of Vishnu is 1 meter high and carved on a black stone. The temple is located 3 kilometers from Chandpur fort or Garhi located on the hilltop
The way to the temple used to go through Badarivan (Berrie’s forest). Hence, the suffix ‘Badri’ meaning berry is added to the seven sacred temples of Lord Vishnu.

History Of Adi Badri Temple
- It is believed that lord Vishnu used to live in Adi Badri during Satyug, Treta, and Dwapar.
- During Kalyug, lord Vishnu shifted to Badrinath and hence it is known as Adi Badri.
- It is believed that the Adi Shankaracharya built the Sapta Badri temples including Adi Badri during the Gupta period.
- According to history, Maharishi Ved Vyas, who is known to have divided the Vedas into Rigveda, Samaveda, Yajurveda, and Atharvaveda, wrote the Bhagavad Gita at Adi Badri.

- The temple is spread over an area of 14 m x 30 m with 16 shrines.
- The temple height varies from 2m to 6m.
- The main temple is dedicated to the lord Vishnu and it has raised platform in front, whose roof leads to a small pyramid-shaped enclosure. The Vishnu idol is 1 m and carved on a tall black stone.
- Other temples are dedicated to Shiva, Mantra Devi, and a kund(pond). The source of the kund is the Saraswati river.

BY AIR: The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun, which is 282 km from Yogdhyan Badri Temple, located in Pandukeshwar. Then from the airport, you can take a taxi and bus to Rishikesh, and then from Rishikesh, you can get the bus to Adbadri, Karan Prayag.
By TRAIN: The nearest train station is Rishikesh and Haridwar. You can get the bus and taxi to Adbadri, Karan Prayag from Rishikesh, and Haridwar.
